Professional Hybrid support
Built for English HHKB Professional Hybrid and Hybrid Type-S keyboards, with both base and Fn layers visible before a write.
PROFESSIONAL HYBRID CONFIGURATOR
Read, edit, back up, and write both layers from Chrome on Linux, macOS, or Windows.
Use at your own risk. You are responsible for any changes made to your keyboard.
Linux support is a first-class reason this project exists. Chrome needs permission to open the keyboard's
hidraw
configuration interface before WebHID can connect.
sudo tee /etc/udev/rules.d/99-hhkb.rules > /dev/null <<'EOF'
KERNEL=="hidraw*", ATTRS{idVendor}=="04fe", MODE="0666"
EOF
sudo udevadm control --reload-rules
sudo udevadm trigger
Unplug and reconnect the keyboard, then reload this page and connect again.
The app compares the connected keyboard identity and mode immediately before writing.
The current layers must match your editing baseline, and both written layers are read back.
WebHID talks to the keyboard without an extension. No account or keymap database is used.
Edits remain local until you confirm a write.
Save both layers and keyboard metadata as a portable JSON file.
Validate and stage a JSON backup. Importing never writes to the keyboard.
Stages the official default for this model and DIP switch state. Return to Remap, review the changes, and confirm the write to apply them.
Before writing, the app re-reads both layers and rejects a stale baseline.
Writing modifies the keymap stored on your keyboard. Proceed entirely at your own risk.
ABOUT THIS TOOL
Built for English HHKB Professional Hybrid and Hybrid Type-S keyboards, with both base and Fn layers visible before a write.
Uses WebHID in a Chromium-based browser on Linux, macOS, or Windows. No extension or account is required.
Share a compact link that previews both layers. Recipients must connect, read, stage, and explicitly confirm before writing.
